Labelled as “the next disruption”, “journalism’s next frontier” or simply “the future”, virtual reality is one of the contemporary buzzwords keeping journalism on its toes.

This blog presents a collaborative research project between the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research Zurich, division Media Economics & Management, and the CAST-team at the University of the Arts, Zurich, investigating VR (and AR) in journalism. We collect recent publications and reflect on the concept of “Spatial Presence”, the management of VR (and AR) in journalistic organizations and beyond, and the motivations to develop immersive journalism.
